Shandong University: connecting campus culture, physical activity and measurable participation

The objective was broader than producing a race result. Students needed a reason to move through campus repeatedly while engaging with university history. Digital orienteering connected places, routes, missions, quizzes and scoring.

Before launch, organizers configured the map, routes, missions and participation rules. During the program, participants entered on mobile devices while the system recorded valid starts, movement and mission completion. Results were then summarized under defined metrics.

Registrations describe participant reach, while valid starts describe compliant activity attempts. A registered participant could start more than once during the program, so the metrics measure different things and should not be substituted for one another.

Campus digital orienteering can become a reusable program asset. Maps, content libraries and operating rules can later support orientation, physical education, campus culture and recurring activity programs.
